OTR Price: What Is Included?

The OTR price is the price of the car plus the cost of making it legal on the road. The problem is that not everyone includes the same things. Some OTR quotes already include insurance and some do not, so two OTR prices for the same car can differ by several thousand ringgit.

What is normally counted as OTR

This is the list usually meant when a showroom gives you an OTR price.

  • Base price of the car including sales tax
  • JPJ registration fee
  • Standard registration number
  • First year road tax
  • First year insurance or takaful
  • Processing and documentation fees

Prices on this site exclude insurance

The prices shown on every comparison page here are Peninsular Malaysia on-the-road prices with sales tax but without insurance, as listed on the official Perodua and Proton sites.

That is why a showroom quote is usually a little higher. Insurance depends on the driver's age, location and claims record, so there is no single correct figure for everyone. Compare your quote against the official price and ask what has been added.

What is not part of OTR

Accessories are not part of the price of the car even when they appear on the same quotation.

  • Window tinting
  • Coating and polishing
  • Accessories such as bodykits, floor mats and dash cameras
  • Personalised registration numbers
  • Deposits and financing charges

What to ask before signing

Ask for a written breakdown. One large figure hides a lot, and accessories added by default are the most common place for price differences to appear.

  • Is insurance included, and from which insurer
  • How much of this is accessories, and can they be removed
  • How many years of road tax are covered
  • Is this price tied to the variant I actually want

Frequently asked questions

Does the OTR price include insurance?
Usually yes when a showroom gives you a quotation, but not always. The official Perodua and Proton prices used on this site exclude insurance. Ask specifically before comparing two quotes.
Why is my OTR price different from the one on this site?
Three common reasons. Insurance is calculated from your own profile, accessories have been added to the quotation, or the official price has changed since it was last checked here.
What is the difference between OTR price and nett price?
Nett price refers to the car alone, without registration costs, insurance and road tax. The OTR price is the total that allows the car to be driven legally.
Is the OTR price the same in Sabah and Sarawak?
No. The prices used on this site are for Peninsular Malaysia. Prices in Sabah and Sarawak differ, so refer to the brand's official site for pricing in your area.
