Why the entry price is the wrong number to compare
A model can look like the affordable safe choice on its headline price and turn out to be the expensive one once you reach the variant that actually has the system. The gap between a model's entry price and its cheapest braking-equipped variant is the number that matters, and it varies enormously across the range.
That is also why the commonly repeated answer to this question goes stale. The cheapest car with automatic emergency braking changes whenever a manufacturer revises prices or moves equipment between variants, and it is not always the model people expect.
Three ways a model can behave

If it is a preference, weigh the premium against what else comes with that variant. On models where the step also brings the lighting, seats and infotainment you wanted, the safety is effectively free. On models where it brings little else, you are paying for the system alone.
