What is the difference between Proton e.MAS 7 Prime, Premium and Premium Plus?
All three share the same 160 kW motor, so the differences are battery, charging speed and equipment. Prime has a 49.52 kWh battery and 345 km WLTP range. Premium moves to 60.22 kWh and 410 km, and adds the panoramic sunroof, head-up display, ventilated seats, 256-colour ambient lighting, front parking sensors and the 16-speaker Flyme system. Premium Plus goes to 68.39 kWh and 450 km, and adds the front passenger leg rest, massage seats and passenger seat memory.
Does the Proton e.MAS 7 Prime have ADAS?
Yes, and this is unusual for an entry variant. The full Level 2 suite is standard on all three, including Intelligent Cruise Control, Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Prevention, Emergency Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Detection and the 360 camera. Prime only misses three: Evasive Maneuver Assist, Front Cross Traffic Alert and Active Lane Change Assist.
Which Proton e.MAS 7 is the fastest?
Prime, at 6.9 seconds to 100 km/h. Premium takes 7.1 seconds and Premium Plus 7.6 seconds. All three use the same 160 kW and 320 Nm motor, so the bigger batteries simply add weight. Prime is 1,662 kg against 1,815 kg for Premium Plus. Top speed is 175 km/h on all three.
How far can the Proton e.MAS 7 go on one charge?
On the WLTP cycle, 345 km for Prime, 410 km for Premium and 450 km for Premium Plus. Proton also quotes NEDC figures of 410 km, 470 km and 525 km, measured on an older and more optimistic cycle. Real range varies with speed, air-conditioning use, load and traffic.
How fast does the Proton e.MAS 7 charge?
All three go from 30% to 80% in about 20 minutes on a DC fast charger, since the higher-capacity variants also accept more power: 80 kW for Prime, 100 kW for Premium and 115 kW for Premium Plus. On an 11 kW AC charger, a 10% to 100% charge takes 4.9, 6.1 and 6.7 hours respectively.
Is the panoramic sunroof available on the Proton e.MAS 7 Prime?
No. The panoramic sunroof with sunshade starts at Premium. Prime also does without the active grille shutter, auto-dimming rear view mirror, ambient lighting, head-up display and the 16-speaker sound system, which are the main comfort reasons to step up.
Which Proton e.MAS 7 variant is worth it?
Premium is the sensible middle. It buys 65 km more WLTP range than Prime plus most of the comfort equipment, for RM16,000. Premium Plus adds another 40 km of range and the rear-seat luxuries for a further RM6,000, which is good value if you want them and pointless if you do not. Prime remains the value choice because the ADAS suite is not what you give up.
