What is the difference between Proton e.MAS 5 Prime and Premium?

Premium costs RM13,000 more and changes three things that matter: a 40.16 kWh battery instead of 30.12 kWh (325 km WLTP against 225 km), the full ADAS suite which Prime does not have at all, and LED headlamps in place of halogen. It also adds a powered tailgate, a 360 camera, 6 speakers and faster 71 kW DC charging.

Does the Proton e.MAS 5 Prime have ADAS?

Not the full suite. Prime carries the rear-facing and blind spot warnings, which are Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Collision Warning and Door Opening Warning. It does not have Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Emergency Brake Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition or Front Vehicle Departure Alert. All seven are Premium only.

How far can the Proton e.MAS 5 go on one charge?

Prime is rated 225 km and Premium 325 km on the WLTP cycle. Proton also quotes NEDC figures of 285 km and 395 km, which are measured on an older and more optimistic cycle. WLTP is the closer of the two to real driving, and real range still varies with speed, air-conditioning use, load and traffic.

How long does the Proton e.MAS 5 take to charge?

On a DC fast charger, both variants go from 30% to 80% in about 21 minutes, with Prime drawing up to 53 kW and Premium up to 71 kW. On AC at 6.6 kW, a 10% to 100% charge takes about 4.3 hours for Prime and 5.9 hours for Premium, since Premium has the larger battery.

Is the Proton e.MAS 5 front-wheel or rear-wheel drive?

Rear-wheel drive, on both variants, using an 11-in-1 integrated motor. Prime produces 58 kW and 130 Nm, Premium 85 kW and 150 Nm.

What safety equipment is standard on every Proton e.MAS 5?

Both variants carry front, front side and side curtain airbags, ESC, G-Traction Control, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, TPMS, Anti-Rolling Program, Hill Hold Assist, Hill Descent Control, auto hold, regenerative braking, rear parking sensors and auto door lock when driving. The brochure lists the airbag types without stating a total count.

Which Proton e.MAS 5 variant is worth it?

If your driving is mostly urban and you charge at home, Prime covers it and saves RM13,000. If you drive intercity, or you want any of the forward-facing driver assistance features, Premium is the only variant that offers them, so the decision is really about ADAS and range rather than trim level.
